There are three types of skin cancer: basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of skin cancer. Both forms usually occur on sun-damaged skin, especially in light-skinned individuals with a long history of chronic sun exposure. Melanoma is the least common type of skin cancer; however, it is the most deadly. Advanced melanoma can spread to lymph nodes as well as other areas in the body such as the liver or brain.
Even though skin cancer is curable with various treatments, prevention is the best protection. You should try to protect yourself from the sun. Also, you should examine your skin monthly to make sure there aren’t any new or changing moles or other marks on your body. If there are any, you should see a doctor.
